Well, I haven’t followed my self-styled regimen. Why? I flared and ended up flat on my back. Then Hurricane season began and it was one flare after another. Dr. W gave me a betamethasone shot. That has helped immensely! BUT, Hurricane and Tropical Storm Fay has led to one of the most debilitating flares I have ever experienced. And I’m worried now about Gustav’s side effects.
At this point, I can hardly type. It’s probably time for me to go back to Dragon Naturally Speaking and try to re-train it. With red, swollen, stiff finger and wrist joints, typing is not a “happy” experience. My knees are also red, swollen and stiff, so walking around isn’t much of an option right now. I need to check and see if the pool is open or if it is closed for maintenance between seasons. If open, I need to start attending again on a regular basis. Exercising in the pool isn’t going to help me lose weight, but it will help me with maintaining my range of motion in nearly all my joints. Just wish it were warmer than it is. Eighty-six degrees isn’t as warm as you might think. I need 88 – 90 degree water for therapeutic exercise. Either a Hydroworx or an Endless Pool would be nice, but it’s just totally out of our range at this point.
So I will exercise in a pool that’s a bit too cool and makes my muscles cramp. Then I will have to come home and take a really warm shower. They only allow 2 minute post-swim showers – and the water flow is timed – turns off before it gets warm enough to do any good. There isn’t a true therapeutic pool in a reasonable distance for me. I simply cannot manage a 35 mile each way trip to the PT pool in the building my rheumatologist has his office.
Have I whined enough? I think so. So I’ll quit for now. Maybe my attitude will improve in the next few days.
